Boris finds the hash a Sunday stroll

Depth Charge kindly wrote most of the wurdz below, with just a few additions from me in blue.

I'd been warned about co-haring with Double Entry, that she has a particular way of laying a trail and non-conformance isn't acceptable! Oh i thought what have i agreed to.

DE emailed me a suggested route, along with all the research she had already done in map form along with route notes, suggested false trails, agreement from the pub owner, estimated mileage and time, infact pretty much everything apart from the menu in the pub.

We met up on the Saturday to lay the trail and set off along the route. I must say this was one of the most stress free and enjoyable routes i've ever laid.

Sunday Morning after a night of some reasonably heavy rain was a little more full on as we retraced some sections of the route washed away.

The rain didn't deter the hardy hashers though. Even Lush came along, although her and Gorjoyce looked like they were out for a leisurely stroll in the countryside underneath their umbrellas.

Hash Mistress Cyclopath called the circle, where we were introduced to two newbies. First was (nearly) local Jane and mutt Milo, who decided that Hashing sounded like quite a nice idea. Second was Adam, who decided that he had better do what Returnee Boris told him to!

As both hares stood in the circle there were puzzled looks – DC in clean clothes and trainers, and DE in wellies with waterproof trousers knee high in mud. Hashers asked "Have you been on the same trail?"

The On Out was given (no check, Shagpile would be proud of his once trainee DE) and the pack set off away along Sutton high street, well the only street in fact. Lulu was the first to find the bar along with newbies Jane and Adam, a welcome addition to the FRBs. In fact Adam later found himself in the circle for competitiveness. Other FRBs tried to block him, surrounding him in a triangular formation, but he was determined to be first back to the pub!

Rapid found the correct trail and set off across the fields to find the first number. Another false trail saw the whole pack deceived, with the majority turning back and heading towards the golf course, a few short cutters carried on.

LuLu and Adam found the next false trail and not to be outdone, Rapid found the next number, along with Clap Trap. It was a close call for Catch It but fortunately for her the run back was complete. Into the woods and a check brought the runners back together. Bangers was the one to find the falsie this time (he was without his trusty companion to guide the way, we all wish Millie a speedy recovery) whilst Rapid found the correct trail and yes of course the number!

Re-united with the shortcutting group the whole pack set off into some light rain and some damp grass. The next check found two false trails and it was the usual suspects that found them. On to the next check where the Knitting Circle took a slightly shorter route, the walkers a medium length route, and the runners were led on yet another false trail before finding the correct path. A long loop up to the edge of Potton to retrieve DE's poster warning dog owners of the trail (well DC does have previous form in both looking suspicious and laying suspicious powder), before rejoining the correct trail to view a particularly placid Stag at the side of the trail.

Shortly after our woodland encounter the pack merged and we set off through more shiggy to the edge of the golf course and the main road.

Crossing the road saw the FRBs up the side of the other 18 hole course before finding the bar which took us back to the rest of the group following the road along the course right up to the On INN. Then into the village across the packhorse bridge over the pretty ford.

Back to the pub to meet up with Capt F and [Lady: ed] Tarzan who decided a nice hot lunch was more inviting than a hash.

Down Downs for Hares, Newbies, Blowfelt for fashion crime (looking like a Russian Trawlerman), LuLu for dogging, Cyclo for a missing Minja (who would trade a damp muddy Sunday Morning for snorkelling and sunny sandy beaches in the Turks amp; Caicos Islands?) and Gorjoyce to add to the already damp garden (see photo).

Many thanks to a super organised DE, for the time and effort in planning a great trail, to all the hashers for finding every false trail and number, just a shame the RA used up all his dry weather credits last weekend at Bangers Bowling.

And DE says many thanks to Depth Charge for being a super "right hand legged man hare", Lady P for her scrummy baked treats, Blowfelt for his mobile sandwich van (quotes available on request for other hash events) and Bangers for his kind wurdz summing up the run.

Thanks to all for joining us, with a special mention to some non-regular hashers – Boris, Lush, Skidmark and Felicia. We hope to see you and our newbies again soon.

On On to Pork Pie, Pimms, Piccalilli (or was it Pickled Onions?) with Capt F
