Meppershall and the still open Sugar Loaf was the venue for the last of the Bank Holiday runs this spring. Jenny, the Landlady, will leave next week after 9 years. The torn net curtains might be replaced?

23 Hashers and 4 mutts set off in the sunshine. Shagpile enjoyed the local scene and a pint until the short cutters joined him.

The keen Hashers headed off along Fildyke road and found the public footpath leading to a grassy tree filled recreation ground. The birds were serenading us as we trundled past, looking for the next on on.

We admired the new Village Hall and headed down a hill, which some keen Hashers ran up at the end of the run. A short cut offering a pleasant stroll back to the pub was taken up by a few.

The remainder headed towards Shefford along a stream and meandered through Polehanger Farm River woodland. The woodland was created in the year 2000 and covers 8.1 hectares – roughly the size of ten football pitches. Forestry commission had placed very nice markers with Kingfishers and hazel signs. One day one might see some blue flashes.

We continued up the incline towards the pub through the monocultre cereal field. Not a bug nor flower in sight. The odd poppy might have been given a chance?! An owl box marks the crossroads, but owls have never inhabited the box, as far as I know. One day perhaps, if mice can roam.

Decision time: runners to the right and walkers to the left. The left got most takers! The back Hare made sure the runner Subby did not slack on her way up the hill back to the village. Maybe Oscar helped pull her along? The pub filled with Hashers, mutts, drinks flowed and cakes were munched. Clap Trap's ginger biscuits may appear again.

The real Pongo was present and gave his usual praise. Lady P was not praised, but accused of dog ill treatment. I think her own knee came of worse. A new misdemeanor: being too nice. Double Entry was given a down down for this new invention. We can never be too kind, so I hope we have more of this offence. Facial hair was mentioned, but the bearers of this beauty enhancement had vanished, so that was the end of that.

On On to the next run 1477. Take note: its a Monday at 7.30 pm (19.30)
